Samford University is a private Baptist university in Homewood, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. Founded in 1841, Samford is the 87th-oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Samford was originally called Howard College until 1965 when it attained university status. It was renamed in honor of insurance executive and longtime trustee Frank Park Samford Sr. at that time.

About the Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have appeared twice previously in the NCAA Division I tournament, losing in the First Round in 2000 and 1999.

Their first two games of the season were losses to Purdue (loss by 53 points) and VCU (10 points). Then finished the season going 29-3 including a 17-game win streak.

The Bulldogs are coached by 40-year-old Bucky McMillian.

This is his fourth season as their head coach.

It s been noted how good this team is statistically but there s one style of play that they re starting to become more and more known for, leading to their success: "Bucky Ball."

When it comes to the Bucky Ball style of play, the players do not worry about how many minutes they play. Instead, they re worried about how many possessions the team has, like trying to get a lot of them, and making those possessions efficient. They like to get up and down with pressure all the time. They play a lot of guys to make that work.

They are fifth in the nation in scoring at 86.0 points per game.

But they also give up 73.9 points per game (ranked 243).

Prior to Samford, Bucky coached high school basketball for 12 years.

Because Samford is a private university, his current salary information is not available.

But I'm willing to bet Bucky makes a little bit more now than he did coaching high school.
