Grambling State University developed from the desire of African-American farmers in rural north Louisiana who wanted to educate other African Americans.  In 1901, the Colored Industrial and Agricultural School opened.  Over the decades it grew, and names changed several times, eventually being named Grambling State University in 1974.

Grambling's female-to-male ratio is 2:1.

About the Tigers

GSU secured its first-ever trip to the Division I Big Dance after claiming its first Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament crown in school history with a 75-66 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday night.

The Grambling State Tigers won the NAIA National championship tournament in 1961. The victory made Grambling State the first and only college basketball program in the state to win a national basketball championship.  In the following years, the Tigers appeared in the NAIA National Tournament eight times from 1959 to 1971, with a total NAIA National Tournament record of 19–7.

In 2013, the Tigers went 0–28, with only one single-digit loss.

Grambling State's male athletes are traditionally referred to as "G-Men".

GSU is most know for their marching band. The GSU Tiger Marching Band also known as "The World Famed Tiger Marching Band" is a historic marching band. They are the only HBCU marching band in the nation to perform at two consecutive U.S. presidential inaugurations. "World Famed" was founded in 1926 and serves as one of the premier ambassadors of the university.

Not sure the band will be in Dayton for their First Four game.

Well, they can welcome them back home real soon.

If Grambling manages to win on Wednesday, they will have to play #1 Purdue on Friday.
