And according to NCAA.com, out of more than 36 million brackets submitted
over all of the major online games (ESPN, CBS, Yahoo, USA Today, plus others), only 244 brackets
remain perfect. That's after only 32 out of 63 games in a Tournament. It is very impossible to get a perfect bracket. And then there's our pool. Of course, nobody here is one of those 244 perfect brackets. In fact, most of us lost perfection on
the very first game of the Tournament where #9 TCU narrowly beat #8 Ohio
State, 66-64. With an 8v9 game, it's pretty much a coin flip. If anything, 9 seeds have a slight historical advantage. In fact, this year, all 9 seeds beat the 8 seeds first time that has happened since 2019. But that game resulted in 85 of our 164 brackets (52%) taking
a loss right off the bat. Then came the the
big one Game 4 where #5 Wisconsin was upset by #12 High Point, 83-82. (Side note: High Point University charted a plane to fly a
plane of students not players and coaches students
from North Carolina to Oregon to witness this upset. You
got to check out that school.) That Wisconsin loss was a loss for 124 of our brackets (76%). #6 North Carolina's 82-78 overtime loss to #11 VCU was another
blow to our brackets with 91 brackets (56%) taking a loss. Our longest surviving perfect bracket lasted through 10 games. And then came #6 BYU's 79-71 loss to #11 Texas. 106 brackets took that loss along with Smokey Bourbon 3. And now no one
is perfect. Smokey Bourbon 3 immediately took another loss when #10
Texas A&M beat #7 Saint Mary's in overtime. But
that bracket has been perfect ever since. Will there be more losses? Of course. But will your bracket have enough
bonus points to overcome your losses? We'll know in about 2 weeks. |
