"Give me the M-F ball."

That's what the Big Ten Rooke of the Year Derik Queen told Maryland coach Kevin Willard during their last timeout of the game with Maryland trailing Colorado State, 70-71, with 3.6 seconds remaining, after just giving up the lead to Colorado State when they hit a 3-pointer with 6 seconds to go.

Maryland gave him the ball at the top of the key, he turned, drove the left side of lane, and hit a fading away 5' jump shot as time expired.

NOT A TRAVEL

Gene Steratore confirmed that. And top referee Roger Ayers was looking right at.

Judge for yourself.

And if you watched that game, you probably would agree that the refs were not really blowing their whistles except for when the ball went out of bounds. They missed a lot, including a blatant elbow thrown by Colorado State star Nique Clifford that could have disqualified him. Not even a common foul was called.

It was the first Tournament buzzer-beater since the 2023 Final Four.

We were also due to come out on this side of a buzzer-beater this season. Maryland was 14-4 coming into this game with all four losses being by buzzer-beaters, with one being at home against Michigan State which I was at.

In the post-game press conference, Queen said that was his first buzzer-beater ever in his life.

Coach Willard quickly said, "I wouldn't have given it to him if I would've known that."

A reporter noted that -- in a press conference two days ago == Coach Willard jokingly said that nobody listens to him, not his players, not his family.

The reporter then asked Queen what makes Coach Willard someone they listen to.

"He do pay us the money. So we gotta listen to him."
