Of the 32 NCAA basketball conferences, 13
have their championship today with games starting as early as 11am (America
East) and as late at 11:30pm (WAC). The Big 12 Final (#1 Houston vs #7 Iowa St,
6pm, ESPN) and the Big East Final (#2 UConn vs #10 Marquette, 6:30pm, Fox)
may get all the hype, but the mid-major tournaments are where the real
excitement is. These teams have no
shot at an at-large invitation if they lose.
They are laying it all on the line. You have teams like UMass Lowell, Delaware
State, Howard, Fairfield, Akron, Long Beach State, UC Davis, and UT Arlington
all fighting to keep playing March basketball. Nothing like desperation basketball. Days like this you wish it were raining and
miserable outside so that you don't get yelled out by your significant other
for camping in front of a screen instead of doing yard work or playing
outside with the kids or doing something else productive. Just think of today as practice for Thursday,
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can't go into the first weekend of NCAA
tournament without practice. Here is today's Championship schedule:
